Another TSR Challenge..

>> Apr 26, 2008

This was a life story challenge Jenn posted.. I believe it’s from Ali’s book? But I chose to do one that the story is not a happy one.. here’s the journaling:

On the heart – left page:  On September 24, 1998 it was time, my mom passed away with my dad by her side.

Right page:

I don’t remember the exact date but I will always remember the moment clearly.  The moment my mom took a turn for the worst.  It was a quiet evening at home.  Tired, my mom went to bed and a few moments later, I heard the quiet panic in my dad’s voice as he called for me.  As soon as I entered the bedroom, I knew it wasn’t good.  My mom’s breathing was so labored my chest hurt watching her try to breath.  My dad told me to call 911.  I hesitated.  My mom didn’t want any life extending measures taken I knew the EMTs have to attempt to resuscitate especially since a formal DNR hadn’t been drafted yet.  In this moment of hesitation, I looked at my dad.  The look in his eyes, he was not ready, even if my mom was.  I don’t know the exact reason, my dad, me my brother, denial.. I wasn’t ready?  I called 911.  The EMTs arrived stabilized my mom and transported her to the hospital, where she never left.  She spent the last weeks of her life in a cold bed around semi-strangers.  I do appreciate the closure we all received with these extra weeks, knowing it was the end helped us cherish them and know we had our chance to say good-bye.  However, there will always be a part of me that wishes I had called my brother, not 911.  That he came over and my mom died in her bed with her family surrounding her.

Catching up on some April challenges at TSR!

Here’s our diva Amber’s challenge.. (one of them she’s a little pushy .. jk)

It was a freestyle.. so I just grabbed paper, photo and then went through each embellishment drawer and grabbed something .. then threw it all on the paper J  It took longer for the blue paint to dry on the “K” grungeboard than it took for the whole LO J

So.. now my eldest son is 13.. I remember when my daughter turned 13 and what a crazy group of girls that stayed the night.. and fruit pizza and for whatever reason really long colorful socks the girls wore… I think I’ll remember the look on my son’s face when he got his skateboard the most.  He was excited but is one of those kids that doesn’t let it show for fear he’ll look silly or something so he had to muffle the excitement in front of his friends… It was a nice group and I realize how much I love his attitude in life as his friends seem to have the same attitude.

I haven’t gotten to scrap much lately but have been buying!  I need to stop spending money as it’s only THREE MONTHS until I get to go to MN for a scrapbook retreat with my gal-pals.  The retreat is for the Scrap-Room kit club however I managed (still not sure how) to convince two of my oldest friends (oldest in length of friendship not their age ;) ) to meet me there.. well one lives there so she really was without choice.. the other is flying in to join the par-tay!  So I am saving from today forward to have a fat roll of money for the Mall of America.

However.. this did NOT help J  I got a new bedroom set.. my dear husband and I have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor as the metal frame it was on broke in the move from Michigan to Las Vegas.. now my philosophy was I just don’t care as only he and I see it.. then I started realizing we have this big master bedroom where we are and it looks like a junk room.. where the owner throws a mattress in and says it’s a guest room.. boxes and clothes and just things without a home everywhere.. so we looked online and found this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230245448249&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=013

isn’t it gorgeous??? And the price was amazing as we had looked at several furniture stores and the sets that were similar were $3000 with just the bed, dresser/mirror and 1 nightstand.. (and seriously who needs just 1 nightstand??)

I also got a new set of pots which we needed and a dyson vacuum which I didn’t realize how MUCH we needed until I used it.. gross.  The sand it picked up was embarrassing!  I had a baby crawling in that stuff.. ick.

So today my agenda is to finish my DT projects which are both 80% complete.. get those to the LSS and catch up on some challenges.. as tomorrow I’m going to try to join in on shimelle’s picture taking extravaganza.. see her site for details shimelle.com

Oh and a small plug.. the Scrap-Room.com is having a big sale on past kits and some grab bags of stuff.. I’d head over and check it out!

Prompt 3 - Shimelle's Home Class

>> Apr 13, 2008

Prompt 3 was to do a mini-book about doorways that feel like home.. here is my take on the prompt. The space in the middle with the little white strip is a place holder for pictures of the indian river and custer street doors.

Journaling reads:

(far left small block)  this door is my “now” our first home in NV it is still surreal to think it’s my home but it becomes more “home” daily.

(right page large block) So many doors in my life.  There are more doors that are “home” to me than those pictured but these are the most significant.  Harvard is where I grew up.  This is and will always be home to me.  Oxford is the home my parents moved to when my brother & I left the nest.  It is also where I returned to when I was pregnant with Kyle.  It’s his first home.  Indian River & Twining are the homes I spent so many summers at running off to play with the dozens of cousins I had.  Custer Road is my brother’s home where as a young adult and new mother I spent many days watching Kyle & Erin play.  Bomiea was my first home with Tony, the first family home our kids lived together.  All of these homes are special and each as a reserved place in my heart 0 for all these homes were places I was always welcome, I never knocked at any of these doors.

Get Happy

I’m in love with paper.  My husband really should be worried.. remember when you were kids and would give the great comeback “if you love it so much why don’t you marry it?”  Well with this new season of papers I really would marry one of the lines.. Cosmo Cricket Get Happy, Crate Paper Static, Little Yellow Bicycle Zack’s Life, Prima’s Dude, Fancy Pants About a Boy (not to mention the movie with Hugh Grant by the same name was AWESOME) .. what is a mother of four boys to do.. besides go bankrupt???

Here’s the first line I got my hands on.. Cosmo Cricket Get Happy

DS and I doing a self photo shoot.. he wanted his picture taken.. then decided to look somber and serious.. eventually I tickled him for the top shot J

Seeing spots..

>> Apr 7, 2008

So another class prompt over in Shimelle land is to share the rooms of your home.. this was fun snapping pictures and just taking a moment to really look at the rooms (and what a bad housekeeper I am! LOL) I really stepped out of a zone on this LO.. for one I used a paper line (Basic Grey Sublime) that is probably discontinued by now and I’ve been ‘saving’ it for years (don’t know what for.. ) but I just grabbed and USED it.. I also used a sketch on the Sketches by Suzy blog that fit the number of pictures I wanted to include.. it isn’t the LO I imagined but I like it J  Journaling:  Our home is filled with many spots, our bedroom spots above (Ours, Austin’s, Kyle’s, Zach’s, Keagan’s); our fun spots to the right (Video game room, Zach’s room, the tub); we have clean clothes spots, dirty dishes spot (it will never be clean)  A bookshelf that is the dump-your-junk spot; the computer in the kitchen is the boys’ spot, in the living room a movie watching spot, and the noggin channel spot (I’m not sure if we get any other channels anymore) our living rom also has a zach spot and a keagan spot, then there is the bike spot the boys call it the bmx training spot.. for me it’s the “I’ll get back into those jeans” spot.  None of these spots stays neat and tidy long.  They are all lived in spots.  *second page* The most noteable spots are th front door as it seems someone is always coming or going and the kitchen as it is where we are all together most often, Family dinner has always been the most important event to me.

** ok I did catch the misspelled words and they are fixed after the photo.. anyone else think and write faster than their mental spell checker??

Going Global

>> Apr 1, 2008

I put a google tracker on my blog .. nothing major just tells me what country viewers are from and how many.. (one likes to know if they are increasing or decreasing in popularity LOL) anyway.. I have had visitors from outside the united states.. I just think that is so neat.  I think the fact that in today’s day & age that one can with a keyboard and cord reach out to people across the world is remarkable.  I love the fact through my message boards I can make friends with someone from the Netherlands or Ireland or Spain.. it’s awesome J
